Training Classes
National Weather Service (NWS) Training Classes:
The local NWS office in Fort Worth offers annual SKYWARN® training classes, usually during the early months of the year. Information on upcoming NWS classes will be posted on the TECO Event Calendar.
MetEd Online Courses:
In addition to the annual NWS classes, TECO strongly recommends that spotters also take the following online courses offered through MetEd, a program sponsored by the NWS in partnership with the University of Colorado:
-
SKYWARN® Spotter Training Course (2 modules)
Additional Training Materials and Resources
-
Spotter Field Guides:
The information contained in these field guides is provided as a reference to supplement the National Weather Service’s spotter training classes. They are NOT sufficient alone to qualify you as a SKYWARN® spotter. These guides have been compiled for use by trained spotters in the field (both fixed and mobile spotters) and communication specialists who receive and relay the reports.
If you have family members or friends who are scanner users, they can listen in to the on-air communications during SKYWARN® alerts in Grayson County. Instructions are provided on the following document (please feel free to print and share): Scanner Users Instructions
